SCOTT MCLAUGHLIN No. 3 XPEL CHEVROLET
START: 27TH
FINISH: 26TH
POINTS: 12TH (-281)
RACE RUNDOWN: After coming from the back to score a fourth-place finish in Saturday’s race of the Sukup INDYCAR Race Weekend at Iowa Speedway, McLaughlin and the No. 3 Gallagher Chevrolet team felt confident they could do it again in Sunday’s Farm to Finish 275 presented by Sukup. However, an incident not of their own making on the first lap of the race left them with a 26th-place finish. McLaughlin’s spin in Saturday’s qualifying session meant he would start from the back of the field for the second time on the weekend. When the race began, McLaughlin found himself just on the outside of a spinning Devlin DeFrancesco in Turns 3 and 4. The 2024 Iowa winner was nearly able to clear the incident but was hit in the left rear by DeFrancesco, knocking him into the outside wall. A quick diagnosis revealed damage too severe to continue.
MCLAUGHLIN’S THOUGHTS: “The Gallagher Chevy was going to be just as good, and I think I got caught up in someone else’s accident. So, there’s only so much you can do it to avoid it. I would have just got through, I probably would have gone through unscathed, but I got clipped there and unfortunately, yep, that is what it is. There were a couple of negatives this weekend, but I’ll take a positive yesterday and just charge to Toronto.”
